Valid for 3 years, after which a refresher course is required. Not applicable for CCTV licences.
If your Door Supervisor Licence is about to expire, you have the option to switch to a Security Officer Licence by completing a Security Officer refresher course. To convert from a Security Officer to a Door Supervision Licence, you are required to complete the full six-day course. For more information please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/news/changes-to-the-training-you-need-for-an-sia-licence
All courses require a valid First Aid qualification ( Minimum requirement: Emergency First Aid at Work. CCTV licences not currently applicable ). You must also complete both ACT Awareness e-Learning and ACT Security e-Learning within a year, via https://www.protectuk.police.uk/. Bring two forms of ID (one must be photo ID), one passport photo, and any prior learning from module 1 (which will be emailed by the training provider). If you do not provide these, you cannot attend the course.
We recommend visiting the SIA website at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-if-you-can-get-an-sia-licence-with-a-criminal-recordor for information about criminal record checks, as these may affect your licence application. Once satisfied, book the appropriate course required for your desired licence for your job.
Learning difficulties like dyslexia, dyspraxia, or dyscalculia do not prevent individuals from obtaining an SIA licence. Awarding organisations and training providers offer reasonable adjustments such as extra support, alternative assessments, or more time to complete tasks.
To obtain an SIA license, applicants must demonstrate sufficient English language skills, even if it's not your first language. This requirement includes the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, as specified by Skills for Jobs Ltd. Applicants may need to show proof of English proficiency through an assessment, such as a B2 level qualification listed on the Home Office's list of recognised English tests, or through an ESOL qualification.
On the day, you must complete a reading and writing assessment before the course. You will also need to write an incident report during your practical assessments towards obtaining your qualification.
If you're unsure about what type of training will work best for you, just tell us a little more about your needs. We will get back to you as soon as possible with the answers you need!
